IRS is Open for Business

On March 5, 2013 (sixty four days after the end of the year) the Internal Revenue Service announced that it has completed the updating of its tax processing system as well as extensive modifications to certain tax forms. The IRS is able to process all individual and business returns effective immediately.

The updating of the IRS systems and forms was needed in response to the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) enacted by congress on January 2, 2013.

With just ten days left for the business return deadline and six weeks for individuals, taxpayers and their diligent accountants are scrambling to meet the deadlines or prepare to file extensions.

In efforts to help speed up return processing by the IRS, electronic filing is encouraged- especially if you are expecting a refund.
